Being One With Other Family Members

By Alcia Wong

Many would agree that the family is the most important thing in everyone's life. However, some people find it hard to spend time with their own families because of their too busy schedules. School and work frequently get in the way.

As an example, parents are sometimes just too caught up with office work that they fail to spend some time with their children. In the same way, there are instances whenever children choose to be with their friends most of the time especially when they are all grown up already.

It is sad, but it is true that one of the few occasions whenever relatives are able to see each other is during a funeral of a loved one. Each time a relative passes away, that is the only time that extended family members begin to see and be acquainted with each other once more after so many years. The funeral, where friends and family gather to pay their last respects to the deceased, becomes a starting point to get to go and be acquainted with people they never knew existed.

However catastrophic the circumstances of the occasion are, a funeral has some advantages too. Aside from being a venue where long lost relatives see each other again, it is a chance for conflicting individuals to patch things up and regain broken relationships. It's also a time when "silent" neighbors all of a sudden show up to express their condolences and bring some comfort to the family that was left behind. Also, the friends of the departed who come from different circles come together to rekindle their fondest stories with their departed friend.

It's just wonderful that amidst the sadness that the funeral brings, family members, friends, neighbors, classmates and workmates come together to share the happiness of being part of the departed person's life. There is a certain level of comfort knowing that other people's hearts have likewise been touched by that same person. The occasion lets everyone realize that everyday is so great a blessing and a chance to make time for one another.
