These are the benefits that you can get from composting

By Jose M. Davis

Composts were the primary form of fertilizers since Roman times. It provides plenty of nutrients to the plants and it is very easy how to compost too. The process is very convenient for many farmers. But basing on modern standards, composting has its drawbacks like waiting for a long time before it can be used; the possible disease that you can get and some nutrients can escape from the compost heap when there is rain.

Composting is a very simple process. All you have to do is gather up regular biodegradable items around the house like fruit peelings, dinner leftovers, leaves and what not. Then you just simply dig a hole in the backyard and start filling the pit with all those material. Once it is covered with soil, you wait for about a year or so and the compost that is made will be fertilized enough to provide nutrition to your plants. These nutrients are made through a process done by bacteria where the ammonium produced will break down into life-giving nitrites and nitrates.

The most obvious benefit that you can get from doing composting is that it is cheaper than chemical fertilizers. All you really have to do is gather all the stuff that is considered to be biodegradable in your home and throw them all into a pit and wait until it is ready. It is very easy how to compost too. Once the compost is ready, it has more nutrients than those made commercially. Since you are putting all your biodegradable material into composting, you are helping to divert waste from landfills.

Using compost is also not very stressful to the plant's roots because they are now exposed to the chemical rich fertilizers that are being produced today. This has a great effect too because these roots can grow widely which help prevents the erosion of the soil. Composts are also good in conditioning the soil and a well conditioned earth is ideal for planting and also helps in preventing floods because the soil is effective in retaining rain water.

Composting is also the main fertilizing technique in farming organic foods. Organic foods are known to be much tastier and healthier to the human body. You are also preventing water and air pollution because water irrigation has less harsh chemicals and no burning is done thus improving air quality.

The benefits that you can get from composting are very plentiful. There are drawbacks to this method but all that waiting is worth it in the end. Plus there are now modern conveniences that can help in reducing the insects and disease causing organisms in that compost.
