Help Keep Your Garden Looking Nice By Eliminating Pests

By Daniel Wilson

Recognizing that holes have been chewed into your plants since you last checked out them is quite a nasty surprize. Many of these holes that have destroyed your plants are from pests. Creatures, slugs, and worms are some of the garden pests that are the worst, as well as snails, caterpillars and even gophers.

Obviously, you want to keep your garden appearing as nice as possible, so you have to take action, but it's nigh impossible to get rid of all the pests. Creatures are a problem as they can conceal themselves under the soil, in weeds or piles of leaves. Your first line of attack must be to eliminate their hiding places whenever possible. Dispose of the rotting substances, the leaves and weeds that provide shelter to the insects. Routinely, you need to be turning the soil over, and breaking up the clumps. This should help eliminate any hiding locations in the soil.

Bugs that consume your plants and diseases that disfigure and obliterate them should also be suppressed with dormant spray. February or March is the ideal time for this, mainly because then is the dormant period for plants. It's essential to stick to the correct instructions, or the dormant spray won't do any good. If you do it wrong, you might be liable to get rid of your entire garden. Just like some insects can be harmful for your garden, there are others that are healthy, so try and retain them. There does exist an additional class of garden pest, that lives not on the ground but around the sky - birds. Trying to chase them away does not achieve much good, but a solution you might try is to put up a bird feeder. Rather than allow them to feed on your garden produce, give them bird food in your feeder. It can help save money in the long run, and become part of your yard decoration.

It may not get rid of your whole situation, but having a dog might help also. For a lot of garden owners their particular garden pest would be the gopher. Should you have dying plants and notice small heaps of pushed-up soil then you'll know they're around. Most of these little creatures certainly understand how to make a nuisance of themselves. A lot of these small-tailed fellows are occasionally white, but usually brown or black, and vary in length from 5 to 14 inches. Placing traps is an excellent method to try to eliminate them. You should get good results by properly placing the traps in their tunnels. Eradicating gophers might also be attempted by lighting smoke bombs in the entrances to their tunnels.

Whenever pests aren't done away with speedily, your garden will deteriorate rapidly. The more time they remain, the less easy they will be to get rid of. A back garden adds to a house when you keep it up, and keep it in excellent condition.
