We live in an increasingly busy world. One where we often find ourselves caught up in stressful situations and these happen day in and day out. It's no surprise then that angling is a pastime that numerous individuals find suits their requirements. And in the British Isles it's the most common participation sports activity and it has been for many years. Angling takes you from your typical environment. You must literally go somewhere fairly tranquil and out of the way to locate decent angling. So instantly you're apart from the hectic places where you may usually devote much of your time. But in addition to enjoyment of the environment, angling also offers a focus that takes the mind off everything generally concerns your life, whether professional or personal.
It is perhaps the combination of these two factors that makes fishing so appealing to so many people. If, for example, as many do, you simply head for the 'great outdoors' and take up hiking or rambling, of course you will remove yourself to locations that take you out of your day to day environment. However, it won't necessarily take your mind off things that bother you. Indeed it might have exactly the opposite effect and allow you time to dwell and brood on matters that you may prefer to forget.
Fishing, whilst requiring little physical effort, certainly exercises the mind. Often in the case of many anglers to the extent that they can enjoy reading and learning about their pastime even when they cannot actually find the time or circumstance to actually go fishing!
