Bureaucracy can strike fear into the hardest hearts. It seems that whenever we deal with anyone official, there's always a form or an automated phone system getting in the way. Only the other day my wife was on the phone to the bank to check a direct debit. She spent ten minutes negotiating the automated system before being told she couldn't check the DD because their computers were down! We can look back on this and laugh (through gritted teeth) but for some older people bureaucracy can cause real distress. Which is why organisations like Bedfordshire Advocacy Service for Older People exist. They provide advocates who can help when those administrative, legal or financial problems become too great. Bedfordshire Advocacy Service is always looking for volunteers to become advocates and make a huge difference to the lives of older people. All expenses are paid and training, support and supervision offered to all volunteers. Perhaps you have some time to spare, or have acquired skills that are going rusty! If so, and you would like to volunteer, or if you need an Advocate - please call 01234 218880 |
