Till date Ufone has given its complete support to keep the facility at par with any private medical facility in the country. The trees will not only provide a healthy environment but will also provide shade for the parents and children to sit under while they are at the hospital.

The UVG also spent time with the ailing children in the PAEDS Ward where each volunteer shared a pleasant moment with the children admitted at the hospital. The volunteers distributed sweets amongst the kids which helped bring a smile to their faces. The parents also appreciated the efforts made by the volunteers.

Jazz Jazba takes Such Hunt to Bahria University, Karachi is a post from: ProPakistani

After holding a successful Motorola Flip-out Such Hunt in NUST Business School, Islamabad, Jazz Jazba team went to Karachi to organize another interactive Such Hunt in Bahria University.

This time around, the Such Hunt was for HTC HD7 phone to be given out via an online campaign after an extensive Jazba flags hunt to qualify for the online contest.

A total of 50 Jazba flags were hidden in different areas of the University and over 500 students visited the Jazba booth set at the campus and looked for the hidden Jazba flags. Lucky 50 students who managed to find the Jazba flags won Jazba T-shirts and were entered into the online contest with hopes of winning the HTC HD7 phone.

At the end of online contest Ayesha Anees Zaveri, student of BahriaUniversity won the amazing HTC HD7 phone.

This is what Ayesha has to say about the Such Hunt contest:

"That was an unforgettable and incredible moment of my life, when I unpacked my HTC-HD7, gifted to me by Jazz Jazba. When I participated in the contest, I wasn't sure that I will win.

I just participated for fun. Due to the support of my friends and family who voted for my picture on Jazz Jazba facebook page, I was declared the winner.

If you ask me to explain the excitement, I don't have words to express it since during the contest, I felt that nothing could stop me from winning and I was very pleased when the feeling turned into reality. Believe me, this is how you can win also, by believing in yourself-just like I did."

As Brand Value Slips, is Google Losing its Magic?

Posted: 11 May 2011 11:45 PM PDT

As Brand Value Slips, is Google Losing its Magic? is a post from: ProPakistani

10 brands As Brand Value Slips, is Google Losing its Magic? On Sunday, Millward Brown, a unit of advertising giant WPP Plc, reported that Google has ceded the top spot as the world’s most valuable brand to Apple Inc.

The search giant had held the title for the past four years. Google’s brand value actually declined by 2%; the only company among the top 10 brands to do so according to the study.

The latest indignity comes after Facebook Inc. overtook Google as the most visited website in the U.S. last year.

In April, investors sold off Google shares as the company’s first-quarter earnings report sparked concerns about its higher-than-expected expenses.

The earnings disappointment came weeks after Google co-founder Larry Page took over as CEO, kicking Eric Schmidt upstairs to executive chairman. Within days, Page had reorganized the company in order to streamline its product and engineering structure. As Google has gotten bigger, it runs the risk of losing the dynamic nimbleness that made it an Internet powerhouse in the first place. The recent management reshuffle was designed to bring the mojo back.

So what happened to the once almighty Google?

Analysts believe what we’re seeing is just an evolution in the ways in which consumers interact with the Web. Apple is fairly unique in terms of producing highly coveted and desired devices, particularly in the post-PC world.

As people increasingly flock to Internet-enabled mobile devices, Google’s dominance is not as apparent as Apple’s, whose sleek devices have consumers waiting in line for days to buy one.

In the meantime, Google has not strayed much from its core search business.

While Google is branching out, with offerings such as its Android mobile platform and Google Chrome browser, it has been slower in putting these pieces into place, making it seem like disparate experiences.

Part of the challenge is that some of Google’s competitors have faster momentum.

According to Nigel Hollis, chief global analyst at Millward Brown, “Google has held its ground, and Apple has accelerated dramatically. Extendibility is one of the keys — moving out of the category it’s already in and into other arenas.”

Apple once was a laggard, until it came out with the iPod, the iPhone and the iPad.

In the study, Google’s momentum score was 4, compared to Apple’s 9. Google tied with AT&T Inc., Verizon Communications Inc. and Altria Group’s Marlboro on momentum among the top 10 brands based in North America. It was surpassed by IBM Corp., McDonald’s Corp., Microsoft Corp. and Coca-Cola Co. General Electric Co. was the only top 10 North American brand with a lower momentum score than Google, at 2.

One of the main reasons Google has not accelerated faster is that its new initiatives are just starting to take hold but have not had much impact yet. Right now, Google is still highly reliant on revenues from search and doing their best to try and extend into mobile and social (networking).

Moreover, momentum among technology companies can shift quickly. Just look at how fast Facebook emerged to triumph over News Corp.’s Myspace. Google could come out on top once again.

Human Resource Department: A neglected Department in Celco’s

Posted: 11 May 2011 10:28 PM PDT

Human Resource Department: A neglected Department in Celco’s is a post from: ProPakistani

clip image002 Human Resource Department: A neglected Department in Celcos

Human Resource Department is a vital department for any organization because it plays an important role in objective setting, aligning mission and vision with company strategy and setting performance standards for employees.

Though all Telecom companies do have well established Human Resource Departments but still there functioning is not optimum and there is a need to improve certain procedures and processes.

The major issue with Human Resource Departments in the telecom industry is that they are centralized. For almost all of the companies there human resource departments are only limited to Head offices (Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad). Though the cellular companies have their offices established across the country but no HR Professionals are available there to coach the employees.

Cellular companies should decentralize there HR departments and access to HR professionals for employees should be easy. They should be available to coach and guide employees regarding certain procedures and issues.

HR department should organize regular meeting and coaching sessions for employees and should keep close relation with them so that employees of distant areas shouldn't feel distressed.

Due to this centralization the distantly located employees don't get much know how of HR policies and procedures and moreover they don't get much chances for recreation and other activities organized by HR department as most of the activities are organized in Major cities (Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad).

Another important issue is that the number of HR Professionals in all of these organizations is very much less. Not more than 100-150 HR employees are in any company (even there may be less number of HR employees than this). Due to this reason a single HR employee has to look after the issues and problems of more than 100-200 employees. Due to this they are not able to have close relationship and knowledge of their fellows.

Though all companies talk about considering employees as Human Capital and valuing them equally but in fact their words differ much from their actions. Still HR department is being treated as Personnel & Clerical department in actual. Still role of HR is limited to devising policies and procedures but they are not being taken onboard for their implementation.

Still HR department is not involved in Performance appraisals as the fate of employees depend upon the discretion of their Line Managers. In most of the cases even if employees are performing well, they do have to accept the ratings given by managers because of the reason of no check and balance by HR department.

In case of recruitment in any department role of HR department is limited to creating Job Descriptions and HR professionals are limited to just an observer during interview or issuing appointment letter to newly hired employees.

The training and development programs should be organized keeping in view the needs of individuals rather than imposing only department decided trainings for them and all employees should be given equal participation to attend trainings so that every one can enhance his/her ability.

Another important issue is lack of proper compensation plan to cater employee needs which is a big source of de-motivation for any employee. Unfortunately celco's spend a large portion of their revenues on advertisement and paying huge salaries to their CEO's and top management and hence to cover up these costs lower grade employees are paid low salaries. This result in low performance of the employees.

So HR department should make it sure that all employee are paid as per their performances and market standards and they should also keep inflation level in account while offering salaries.

The need of the hour is that Cellular companies should take on board their Human Resource Departments while designing all the policies and procedures. It shouldn't work as a dummy department but it should have some actual role for the company and most importantly for employees.

The number of employees in HR department should be increased and it should be de-centralized. Moreover HR department should develop such strategies as to treat all employees equal regardless of gender, ethnicity. More practical steps in right directions will not only help in winning employees trust but will also help company to achieve its desired goals.
