Is Social Media Ruining Students? Posted: 01 May 2011 10:13 PM PDT Is Social Media Ruining Students? is a post from: ProPakistani What comes to your mind when you hear the word ‘Social Media’? Few might have got the idea, but for those who are still wondering, here you are: What come to your mind when you hear the word ‘Social Networking’. One single word, apart from the grammatical errors, The Facebook! We are surely living in a Facebook integrated life where from the kid who hardly learns to make sentences to the other extreme who hardly are able to hear the sentences, yes the old ones, are connected. Along with Facebook, Twitter has also played it’s role. Both the platforms can easily be termed as The Social Media, with others in the list as well but at minor level, compared to them. Apart from the other ethical issues, Facebook, with the history of “Built for Students” and other social media are really effective for the students? The alarming question, “Is social media ruining students?” On an open note, deeper the students venture into social networks, the greater the risks. It’s hardly a shock to learn that the more students uses Facebook, the more their grades tend to drop. At the same time, the public platform of social networks will see some personalities thrive in healthy attention, while others may become depressed or arrogant. We are not going to decide here, whether to leave Facebook or not, but just have a slight idea on how can you manage between the studies and the facebook. Following infographic clearly reveals how grades are shifted from one extreme to the other. Comments are welcomed, what you think about the issue. Source: OnlineEducation.net Related posts:

Pakistan Down by 8 Ranks in BPO Ranking Posted: 01 May 2011 10:08 PM PDT Pakistan Down by 8 Ranks in BPO Ranking is a post from: ProPakistani A.T. Kearney recently released the Global Services Location Index report, which measures the attractiveness of offshore locations in 50 countries – and the news is that Pakistan has gone down by 8 positions when compared to 2009's ranking. According to A.T.Kearney's report,
However, when it comes to Pakistan, the findings are a source of concern. In two years time, Pakistan has fallen 8 positions to its current 28th. People skills and availability: Pakistan ranked miles away from the leaders in this category. This is quite a worrying statistic because in the international market, we are below par in experience, size of labor force as well as education. Rising costs for higher education and reduced funding for government institutions mean that education is not a priority for the current government. And as a result, we are falling behind when compared to other countries.
Financial Attractiveness: Pakistan ranked 4th with Vietnam leading the table in this category, which means that if corporations are looking for high returns on their investments, Pakistan is a very good place to start. The current situations of the rupee in the foreign exchange market as well as jobs in the country help to raise our score. The rupee ranks low against major currencies which means operational cost will be low. And with even well educated people willing to work more for less, given the sorry state of jobs these days, Pakistan is music to the ears of an organization looking to maintain a financially completive edge over its rivals. Business environment:
We ranked rock bottom when it comes to providing a sound work environment, good infrastructure and security of intellectual property. This is not a surprise. The security situation in the country is bad to say the least and our infrastructure isn't up to international levels. What does this mean for us? Let's paint a realistic picture. We are currently in the lower half of the spectrum. And we need to start taking the right steps immediately to get out of it. The current economic outlook in the country is bleak. I’ve seen graduates from good universities forced to take up menial jobs just so that they can provide bread and water for their families. And the job situation is not getting better nor will it in the immediate future. Our country is already financially attractive, what we need is steady work being done to educate the masses and infrastructure development that will force firms to look our way when expanding. Highly qualified labor (with respect to international standards) is a must if we are to have any hope of bouncing back. If firms do start outsourcing to Pakistan, this will increase the inflow of capital in our country, which should help to partly alleviate situation here as more jobs are created. But none of this will happen unless some serious work is done to achieve these goals. The current government needs to recognize the potential that this option offers. Just look at how India has transformed itself into a market leader. And try to emulate their success. However it's not solely the government's responsibility. Well educated people and fresh graduates can also pool their resources together and start offering their services at lower than market rates. Once credibility is established, the sky is the limit. I guess what I'm trying to say is that don't aim to have a 9 to 5 job. Be creative and take your future in your own hands. Related posts:

Business Promotion Through Web and Social Media Posted: 01 May 2011 09:50 PM PDT Business Promotion Through Web and Social Media is a post from: ProPakistani In the age of social media and online world, there is little or perhaps no ground left for businesses to limit themselves only to physical world and ignore benefits of the digital world. While it is true that digital world won't take your business to the top in one go but there are greater chances for enhancing your potential and allowing you to achieve new heights. Social media can certainly make your small business grow once your potential clients came across your brand and your area of specialization. While most businesses these days do have their well maintained websites but a website is mainly a static page with your contact information and sample of your work. Social media is bit different. Here are some basic steps that can greatly help your small business start growing: Sharing Content: Its alright you have your website but you need to be sharing your content actively through social media. Virtual world is fast and keeps on updating every second. Content sharing using Face book, Blogs, Twitter can be highly effective in this regard. Your consumers will certainly respond back to you by sharing their ideas about your product and providing you healthy feed back. Over time, you will be able to build relationship with your clients that will help your cause greatly. Online Discussions: It is better reaching out to your customers than they reach to you. You can start online discussion among your clients by creating open discussion forums and fan pages. Such forums will provide you an opportunity to listen to your customer's genuine views in depth. Interact with Customers: Interaction with your clients and providing them free product samples will help your business grow and make a name for yourself among your potential customers. Organizing small events that allow your customers to interact on personal level with you will not only enhance your company reputation but will also strengthen customer bond with your company. Networking: While above mentioned steps will help you in attracting customers, another important step is networking with your alike partners in the field. It's better to be working in an environment of mutual interest. Advertising on partner's websites and forums is a handy task for small inter-connected companies. While our elderly experience business people still maintain they need to hire a special IT equipped individual to perform all above tasks it's no longer the situation. Today you don't have to hire any such individual as a layman can perform all these tasks. Even you, yourself can do this even if you starting from scratch you will learn all this stuff posting and updating over time and very soon. Related posts:

Giving Earth A Hand: Warid Telecom Posted: 01 May 2011 09:49 PM PDT Giving Earth A Hand: Warid Telecom is a post from: ProPakistani In line with the thought 'I am the change' Warid takes yet another earth friendly step by supporting young leaders of KES (Kinnaird Environment Society). With an understanding that now is the time to let the change take place and that one person has the power to effect climate change. The Kinnaird Environment Society (KES) is uniquely distinguished for taking number of green initiatives to protect nature. Earth Week was organized by the society in which a three day event was planned to mark the Earth Day celebrations. April 26th was the pledges day when KC students joined at the stalls set up by the KES members around college. Each one took a pledge on how to make this earth a better place to live and how an individual can play positive role in making our environment clean and green. Exciting prizes were given to those who came up with the most creative pledges. "Think Green" Eco Competition was held on 27th April. The competition's judge was Ms Zabreen Hassan from WWF Pakistan. Zartaj kamran khawaja (BSc. HONS Economics, SME-4) was the winner for writing a wonderful article 'Think Green' and she was awarded with a trophy, certificate and gift hamper. On 28th April finally the Earth Day was celebrated. Dr Rukhsana David, principle Kinnaird college graced the event who appreciated the efforts of Warid for supporting this bravura event and all the untiring efforts put by Dr. Saleema Bashir (Advisor KES) Anum Zia (President KES) and all the Kinnaird Environment Society Members. Mr. Ghanzanfar Ali Langab, president S.W.A.N and Dr. Aneel Salman of GIK (Ghulam Ishaq Khan) delivered inspirational speech over 'Climate Change'. Videos on the theme, "Think Green" were played and "Ecofair " stalls were showcased to spread awareness amongst KC students. Warid staff and their families recently celebrated Earth Hour in collaboration with WWF-Pakistan and its business partner Singtel (Singapore Telecom, Asia's telecom industry giant) that was the part of Warid's going green drive. The company also commenced a outstanding project of implementing Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) solution based on Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R-2 Hyper-V. With this project, Warid took a leap forward in carbon emissions, honoring its part in keeping the planet greener by environment friendly green technology. Total Power Consumption is reduced by 180% with annual saving of 215,280 KW/Y from power and Total Air Conditioning Saving per Year: 160,030 KW/Y, also Carbon Emission Saving per Year: of 581730 Pound. To protect environment by introducing the environment friendly or green energy for mobile in Pakistan, Warid is also the first cellular company to introduce/deploy solar powered BTS in the country. The non-hybrid site is 100% powered on solar energy thereby reducing carbon dioxide emissions and noise pollution, both of which are unfriendly to the environment. The solution also reduces pressure on Pakistan’s overall energy supply which further benefits the environment. Related posts:
